Chulu East Peak Climbing
Chulu east Peak (6,584m) lying south east of Chulu west in part is comparatively smaller peak situated high above the Manang valley in the famous Annapurna trekking route. The peak together with the Chulu west forms an integral part of the Manang Himal that turns in included in the Damodar Himal. The peak first ascended by a German expedition team in 1955 via the north East Ridge and provides the breathtaking views across to the Annapurna II, III and IV, Gangapurna, Glacier Dome, Dhaulagiri, Tilicho peak and Mount Manaslu.
The climb is technically straightforward and recommended to be fit and have good climbing experience. you should be familiar with the use of your equipment, crampons, harness, ice axe, tying knots and handling climbing ropes. Most of the climbing involved will be walking roped together, including the glacial crossings.
Many climbers are confused for the exact location of Chulu east and West peaks climbing as this range has 4 or more summits in the immediate vicinity, which are unmarked in maps of this area. The North-East ridge is considered the normal route to climb this peak from a Base Camp on the moraine at 5334m. Most climbers make it to the top and back from Base Camp in one long day and some have established a higher camp somewhere below the peak.
