Everest Base Camp Trek

Trekking to Everest Base Camp is one of the most popular trekking routes in the Himalayas. Thousands of trekkers visit this beautiful region of Nepal each year. The two week trek through the Sagarmatha National Park to Everest Base Camp takes you to the land of Sherpa’s where romanticist finds their each step following the footsteps of Hillary, Tenzing and other explorers.

The Everest Trek has been a centre of attraction for trekkers and climbers since 1953.

The trail that climbs through the foothills of the world’s highest mountain offer some of the most spectacular scenery and challenging trekking experience in Nepal. The way to Everest Base Camp has been extensively developed for trekking, with well maintained trails and plenty of guest houses.
The Solukhumbu Region, at the base of Everest, is homeland of Sherpa people whose reputation for their excellent skills in trekking and climbing mountains is recognized worldwide.
This trail will remain equally memorable for those who enjoy distinct life style and cultural heritages. The Buddhist monuments of the Sherpas called Stupa, Chorten and Gompas (monasteries) reflects distinct cultural values of northern Himalayan community. The natural heritage, in addition, is there to delight you. The towering landscape all around the Sagarmatha National Park which is also rich in bio diversity is full of various plant and animal species. Rare plants like Jatamasi, rare birds like Lophophorus and rare animals like Snow Leopard and Panda are all there to delight its visitors.

To start the trek we will fly to Lukla, whose airstrip is not more an hour’s flight from Kathmandu.
The trail to Everest Base Camp begins at Lukla, descending to the village of Phakding, and then following the Dudh Koshi valley. There you will climb steadily to Namche Bazaar, a large bustling town of Sherpa People. During the first day we will pass through a number of small villages, interspersed with magnificent forests, moss covered groves of Rhododendron trees, (Laligurans, the national flower of Nepal) waterfalls, Magnolia trees and giant firs.
The trail ascends from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche that passes through meadows where views of grazing yaks enchant you. Our trek will finally take you to the sandy plain of Gorak Shep. Here you climb up amongst large boulders to the broad summit of Kalapathar (5,545m) where you will discover mountain views known to be the most amazing on earth. They include Mt Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse. Finally, you will trek down to Everest Base Camp, at the foot of the famous Khumbu ice fall.
The Everest Base Camp Trek returns to Lukla for the flight to Kathmandu. This is our general route. However, certain change can be made as per your special request.

Our flight is memorable life experience as it offers fantastic views of the mountains, including Everest. But most people will have their sights firmly set on the arrival to Lukla.

as we leave Phakding, we cross the Dudh Koshi River through long suspension bridge and follow the river northwards. We will be delighted by our first splendid views of the mountains when Thamserku (6608m) appears at the head of a narrow valley.
Now the path crosses back to the other side of the river and passes through the gate of Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo where we will be required to show our permits.
We continue to walk along the riverside until a final suspension bridge is crossed which is just below ‘Namche hill’. Now we will climb a long steep hill where Sherpa guides and trek leaders can be seen.
Finally, we will reach Namche Bazaar, the principal village of the Khumbu region. There we will stay at a comfortable Sherpa lodge.

Day 05:Acclimatization in Namche (3,440m)
Today we make an acclimatization trek up to Khumjung, a delightful Sherpa village above Namche. Khumjung is a quiet village. If we like, we can walk to Everest View Hotel. Everest Museum at Khumjung is the centre of attraction. After lunch, we will return to our lodge at Namche Bazaar.

A long climb upwards takes us to the famous Gompa at Tengboche, the largest in Khumbu region.
Here, we will be delighted with the splendid view of Mt. Kwongde (6187m), Mt. Tawache (6542m), Mt. Everest (8848m), Mt. Nuptse (7855m), Mt. Lhotse (8618m), Mt. Amadablam (6856m) and Mt. Thamserku (6608m). They are all there to provide an inspiring panorama of Himalayan giants.

Day 07:Trek to Dingboche (4,360m) 5-6 hrs
From Tengboche, we head northwards and soon cross the Dudh Kosi River through a small suspension bridge which spans a deep chasm in the river valley.
Now we follow a delightful path through the village of Pangboche. Superb views of Ama Dablam present themselves at virtually every point on the path.
We will continue to walk along the river. Our overnight camp will be at the village of Dingboche. The place enchants us with Island Peaks, Mt. Makalu and another face of Amadablam.

Day 08: Acclimatization in Dingboche (4,360m)
To the north of Dingboche, there are spectacular views of Lhotse’s huge South Face. As part of our acclimatization program, we trek northwards for a couple of hours.
We can take lunch at the hamlet of Chukkung. If we find it comfortable to walk, several local hills are likely to offer a short climb for even better views. In the afternoon, we return to Dingboche.

Day 09: Treks to Lobuche (4940m) 5 hrs
From Dingboche we start to ascend into the highest parts of the Khumbu. We travel through the hillside until we reach the few stone buildings at Dugla. We have lunch here. Now we continue to ascend along the snout of the Khumbu Glacier, passing many stone chortens.
The path follows a pleasant, grassy valley and finally reaches the lodges at Lobuche. You are likely to be delighted with outstanding views of Mt.Nuptse, Cholatse, Lobuche, and Pumori.

Day 10: Treks to Gorak Shep, Visiti Everest Base Camp and back to Gorak Shep (5,170m) 7-8 hours.
Our trail from Khumbu Glacier to Gorak Shep remains both enchanting and memorable. This short trek provides you with an opportunity to perceive rural Himalayan culture and nature in its complete harmony.
We descend down to the moraine covered Khumbu Glacier. The route to base camp is generally well defined with a series of cairns marking the way.
Our three hours of owe inspiring walk takes us to our most awaited destination- Everest base camp, which is a sprawling mass of tents during the main spring climbing season.
Although we cannot see the summit of Everest from base camp, the Khumbu icefall is right in front of us and we may be able to see the black dots of climbers descending through this chaotic jumble of ice blocks. This is the best time in our life to prove our photographic skills. This beautiful Himalayan panorama offers every forms of beauty that nature has to offer.
After taking our photos and admiring the scenery we retrace our steps back to the camp at Gorak Shep.

Day 11: Gorak Shep trekking to Kala Patthar (5545m) trekking back to Pheriche (4280 m) 7-8 hrs:

Overnight in Pheriche.

Day 12: Return trekking to  Namche Bazaar via Pangboche and Tengboche 6-7 hours.
Our final day in the high mountains takes us back to Namche Bazaar. Although we are leaving the Khumbu now, this is one of the best days walking on the entire trek. The path initially descends to the river below Pangboche and crosses via a rickety suspension bridge spanning a narrow chasm.
Now we climb up through pretty forest to the famous Gompa at Tengboche. Here we will visit Gompa that has been newly built since the old one was destroyed by fire in 1989. Then we begin the long descent down a seemingly endless series of switchbacks to the Dudh Kosi at Punki Tenga. We stop here for lunch in a very pleasant location.
We begin to climb a challenging hill that climbs up to the lodges at Sanasa. Now the path contours around the hillside in a superb high-level position. Finally, we reach Namche and have a good rest at a lodge.

Day 13: Return trek to Lukla
Today, we retrace our route down the Dudh Kosi and back to Lukla. It is likely to take five or six hours for us to reach Lukla. We stop for lunch at Phakding. Our last night with your trekking team remains memorable.

Day 14: Fly Lukla to Kathmandu
Saying goodbye to our porters, we board our flight and make the exciting one-hour flight back to Kathmandu. If the flight is under schedule, we are likely to be back at our hotel before noon and you can have good shower and afternoon rest.
