Parsa Wildlife Reserve

Parsa Wildlife Reserve, established in 1984 with an area of 499 sq. km, spreads over parts of Chitwan, Makawanpur, Bara and Parsa districts. The vegetation is tropical and sub tropical mostly covered with Sal forests, while the hills are covered with chir pine.

The forest in the Parsa Wildlife Reserve of Nepal is composed of tropical and subtropical forest types with sal forest constituting 90% of the vegetation. The hills are covered with chir pine. Likewise, Khair, sisoo and silk cotton are found along water areas.

The reserve gives the good support to wildlife like: elephant, tiger, leopard, sloth bear, blue bull and wild dog among others. There are 527 species of birds found in the reserve.
The vegetation is tropical and sub tropical mostly covered with Sal forests, while the hills are covered with chir pine. Khair, sisoo and silk cotton are found along water areas. The reserve provides good habitat for animals like wild elephant, tiger, leopard, sloth bear, gaur, blue bull and langur.

One can find Parsa wildlife reserve by the bus that moves from Kathmandu. The reserve headquarters is an 8 hour drive from Kathmandu. Likewise, Simara airport is 7 km away from the reserve headquarters. Thus, it is relatively easy to reach Parsa wildlife reserve.

Winter (October-December), spring (January-March), summer (April-June) and monsoon (July-September) are the seasons to visit the reserve. As most of the area falls under southern Terai with altitude ranging from 60 to 610 m from sea level, the place is relatively hot in summer.
