Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve
Here goes another most sought after wildlife reserve in Nepal where jungle safari is a memorable life experience. Shuklaphant Wildlife Reserve is located in the southern part of far-west Nepal in Kanchanpur district. The reserve was established in 1973 as the Royal Shuklaphant Wildlife Reserve covering an area of 155 sq. km. The pristine sub-tropical jungle makes Shuklaphanta Nepal’s second largest wildlife Reserve in Teral.
This wildlife reserve is popular for its species diversity. The vegetation of the reserve are mainly Shorea Robusta, Terminalia Alate, Bombay Ceiba, Acacia Catechu, Dalbergia Sison and Karma Adina Cordifolia among others. Likewise, Swamp Deer , Wild Elephant, Tiger, Blue Bull, Hispid Hare, Chital, Leopard, Wild Boar, Hog Deer, among other are popular animals here. The reserve, in addition, consists of 268 species of birds. Most of them are the grassland birds including the Bengal Florican. Dreadful reptiles include the Marsh Mugger, Monitor Lizard, Python, Cobra, Krait, etc.
Spring and fall are the best seasons to visit the reserve because the temperature remains 30ºC to 32ºC and raises up to 40ºC whereas in winter it ranges from 10ºC-15ºC.
How to Travel?
In order to find yourself to Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve you can either catch a plane or a bus to Dangadi. 43 km. drive from Dhangadi takes you to Mahindra Nagar. Finally, 8 km drive from Mahendranagar takes you to reserve headquarter.
