World Woof Tour 2009

World Wolf Tour 2009The World Woof Tour a round-the-world journey being undertaken by a seven-year-old dog named Oscar and his vegetarian caregiver Joanne Lefson. Joanne adopted Oscar from Cape Town in South Africa, and started her tour, the world woof tour, three months ago; she has already visited 28 countries and intends to link up with at least 70 global animal shelters to promote pet adoption around the world.

The World Woof Tour began on May in Joanne and Oscar’s hometown of Cape Town, South Africa, Oscar and his team visited Nepal from July 25 to 29,Five years ago, Oscar was brought to an animal shelter in Cape Town, and fortunately, Ms. Lefson came along and adopted him. Since then Oscar has found a loving home and has also discovered his noble mission in life.

Above the Himalaya Trekking and team is very happy to be their sponsor (http://www.worldwooftour.com/oscars_blog/nepal/) in Nepal and to provide them our services.

Oscar is an amazing dog and we had a great time with him in the Jungle of Chitwan with Elephant riding and Kathmandu. It is an unforgettable experience for us.

Thank you Oscar and team visiting us

Who is OSCAR?

I am Oscar; one unlikely mutt who knows exactly where I am going but not quite sure where I came from. You see, just between you and me, my family tree is one big mystery.

Right, now that you all agree that I’m the finest creature that you ever did see, can you believe that no one once wanted a mutt like me? In fact, it’s a mighty mutt miracle that I survived to even wag this tale to you. You see, I was once all alone without a home; I was just one of the 475 million furry statistics out there dying for someone to adopt me.
Living alone without a home is an unbearable exercise in pain and senseless suffering. It is all yelp with no help! You just wish that you had never, ever even been born at all.

I was dumped at a shelter back in 2004. I became an impounded hound. I howled for a home and begged for a bone. I scratched for a passing pat; I did anything to become someone’s pet.
Then, one day, someone kind came and adopted me away. I was somehow spared from despair; now I want to inspire you to save lives everywhere. So, if you are looking for something oh so cute, charming, lovable, delightful, adorable, honorable, sometimes mutty, periodically pedigree and uniquely sweet just like me, dig this. A woof like me wants you!

Why the World Woof Tour?

There are 600 million woofs in this world. 125 million have it yappy; the rest have it ruff. I know what it’s like to live the ruff side of life when it’s all yelp with no help. You see, I was born an innocent victim of pet over-population. Homelessness is an exercise in unbearable suffering. You feel like a dog. With a bit of luck your tail may wind up at animal shelter. There you sit. You stay. You wait to be wanted. You know that you would make the best friend that money could never buy; but that’s not anything to wag home about.

Inside here, just like out there, no one really knows how special you are. Chances are they never will. You’ll be destroyed before they ever know you better.

That's where this tale was supposed to end. I was destined to be destroyed in a shelter. That's when I made a vow to myself and to all my friends facing a frightful fate that if I were to defy the odds and make it out of that cage alive one day, I would invest every single ounce of pooch passion and mutt muscle into showing the world just how cool pound hounds really are I promised to do whatever it would take to get loving homes going to the dogs - even if it meant doing what no other paws had ever done before in the name of destitute dog-kind!
With a scratch of fate and a lick of luck, I got a new leash on life. This World Woof Tour is my answer to that promise I made to my friends I left behind and the 475 million homeless dogs that are still dying for a place to call ‘home’.

This World Woof Tour is all about making one big, unified bark for my friends – the homeless hounds that yelp for help and a home around the world. My tour is about showing the world just how cool pound hounds really are.

Over 30 countries are on my hit list. I am going to fly, swim, sniff, walk, scratch, drive and even hand glide to over 60 organizations who work their woof off to support, uplift, encourage and better the life for dogs in their districts. Together, we are going to create exciting and interesting events to draw positive attention for dog adoption with the global goal of getting doors opening for dogs. With your support of my Mighty Mutt Mission, we can save lives and give a dog a home, sweet bone.

Yup, I sure got a lot of planet-panting to do, but a pooch promise is a promise this Oscar plans to keep! All YOU have to do is to be a good dog. Sit back and relax on your big soft sofa. Grab a juicy bone and keep your eyes, wet nose and ears peeled right here. Better yet- get out there. Be cool. Have a huge heart and ADOPT A DOG!

Appreciation email from World Woof Tour Team

Hello Puru and (Above The Himalaya Trekking Team)

Gosh, you never fail to go out of your way to help, assist, entertain and accommodate difficult tourists with their dogs and cameras! Seriously Puru, your generosity and genuine professionalism is quite extraordinary - through all my travels around the world on previous occasions, never yet have I met a man who is so honest and genuinely concerned with the welfare and care of his guests. You simply are quite amazing and unique in a flood of competitors. Please know that Oscar, Inaam (Cameraman) and I deeply appreciate all that you have done to make our visit in Nepal so wonderful and productive. I would love to reciprocate all that you have organized for our World Woof Team.

Kind Rebarks,
Joanne and Oscar
