01

Day 01: Arrive in Lhasa transfer to hotel

Today is your arrival day in Lhasa for your Lhasa tour. You will arrive in Lhasa via Nepal or mainland China. If you fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa, you will have a 1 hour 10 minutes. The trans-Himalayan flight is one of the most beautiful air routes in the world.

The flights provide magnificent views of Everest (8848m), Kanchenjunga (8536m), and other Himalayan peaks. You will meet at Gonggar Airport with your Tibetan guide, who will join you for your entire Lhasa tour.

We will drive to Lhasa from here (3650 meters). It takes around 30 minutes to reach the old town. After checking in at your hotel, it’s advisable to rest. Lhasa’s altitude will make it easy for the rest of the day. Overnight in Lhasa.

02

Day 02: Lhasa full day Sightseeing Tour

After breakfast, you will start your Lhasa tour. Today, we explore the heart of Tibet by taking a special Lhasa tour. Our Lhasa tour begins with a Tibetan visit to Sera Monastery. Sera means “Wild Rose Garden” since opulent wild rose woods once grew around it.

They built the Sera monastery in 1419. The Monastery stands grandly on a mountain slope with colorful architecture. Explore Norbulinka Palace in Tibetan’ beautiful gardens’. It was the summer palace of the Dalai Lama.

Enjoy watching the monks debating the Buddhist scriptures at the serene Sera Monastery. See the beautiful collection of ancient murals and statues. View the scriptures written in gold powder, scroll paintings, tapestries, and Thangka.

Visit the Jokhang Temple on our Lhasa tour, a spiritual center of Tibetan people. Every day, many Buddhists from every corner of Tibet come to burn incense to worship here. Follow the pilgrimage circuit along the ancient streets of the old town close to Barkhor Bazaar. Return to the hotel overnight.

03

Day 03: Another Sightseeing Day in Lhasa

Today, we will explore the Potala Palace and Drepung Monastery on our Lhasa tour. The 17th-century Potala Palace offers an excellent view of the entire city. It has private quarters of the Dalai Lama, many grand staterooms, and chapels.

We guide you through an ancient palace chamber and see Tibetan art and statues. After visiting the Potala palace, enjoy the solemnity of the holy Dreprung Monastery. It is one of the largest Monastery in Tibet, built in the 14th century. It used to shelter around 10,000 monks.

You can observe many nuns and monks chanting and performing religious discourses here. But as of now, there has been quite a declination, resulting in only a few hundred. This monastery knots the Tibetans’ respect and belief. Evening free for shopping. Return to the hotel overnight.

04

Day 04: Final Departure day, Fly to onward destination

Your Lhasa tour will conclude today. After your breakfast, early morning drive to the airport. Fly back to Kathmandu and/or to your onward destination.

Essential Information - Lhasa Tour

Potala Palace

Geography

Geographically, Tibet comprises the East, the South, and the North. The eastern part of Tibet has a forest region, which occupies around 25% of Tibet. The Southern part is open grassland occupying almost half of Tibet.

They have agricultural areas in the Central and Southern regions. Tibet contains all the major cities: Lhasa, Gyantse, Shigatse, Gyatsa, and Tsedang. This area is also considered the cultural center of Tibet and Buddhism.

Climate

You can do the Lhasa tour from mid-July to the end of September, which is the best period. The temperature varies sharply from the south grassland to the north plateau. The south is warm and rainy. The most rain falls from May to September. It is warm from June to August. The coldest months are from December to February.

Crossing the passes at that time is almost impossible. During this Lhasa tour package, the Hotels/guesthouses have basic facilities. Even a hotel in Lhasa may not meet your expectations. We always provide our clients a twin room, which may only be possible sometimes. Occasionally, because of weather factors or road conditions, we may not be able to bring you to the hotel of our contract.

Or they may have sold rooms due to delayed arrival. We may request that you adjust to whatever accommodation is available. In Lhasa, Gyantse, and Xigatse, you can expect a twin room with an attached toilet/shower. But you will have to adjust to common restroom facilities in other places.

Transportation

From Kathmandu, the Lhasa tour starts with a van/coach to Kodari (Tibet border 116 km). Our guide will be with you until the Tibet border. Tibetan crews will drive you to Lhasa. In the event of landslides or road blockades for any reason, you need the service of a porter to carry your luggage.

You can hire another means of transport between the two landslides or for an onward journey. You need to spend a nominal amount for your Lhasa tour during the change of vehicle at the border. We are requesting you to help yourself with your luggage.

Travel to Tibet from Nepal

The best and easiest way to travel to Tibet from Nepal is by directly flying to Lhasa from Kathmandu, Nepal. Air China or Sichuan Airlines operates daily. Airplanes take off around noon and need around 1:30 hours to cover the distance.

The price for a flight ticket depends on the season and ranges between $300 and $500 for one way. The average cost is less than $400. There is a time difference between Lhasa and Kathmandu. So, although it is just a 1-hour flight, you will land at the airport of the Tibetan capital between 3 pm and 4 pm.

Another popular way to travel for the Lhasa tour is by road, which is also suitable for altitude sickness. The friendship highway and route of Zhangmu and Nyalam are not operating. So, we are taking a course from Kodari.

Tour Guide

Tibetan guides have limited English. You may not expect a fluent explanation about culture, religion, or any other academic topics on the Lhasa tour. He will serve more as a geographical guide. We will be responsible for dealing with bureaucracies on the way. However, we will assign you the best manual available.

Tibet Visa information

When traveling to Tibet, you must apply for a China Group Tourist Visa and a Tibet Visa (also named Tibet travel permit). Individual travelers can only get both travel documents through a local travel agency. We will arrange it for you. For processing China Group, Visa takes at least three working days.

Thus, we advise you to arrive in Kathmandu earlier for your Lhasa tour. For the Tibet Permit, We need to start preparing at least 20 days before you go to Nepal. All you need to do is email the photo of your passport information to us for your Lhasa tour.

Suppose you have a Chinese visa in your passport. The previous Chinese visa will become invalid when we apply for a China Group Visa. If you have, you can take it and fly from Kathmandu to Chengdu and later get Tibet Permit for Tibet entry. We will arrange your Tibet visa and travel permit for your Lhasa tour.
